A Rez Times Merry Christmas
writes, "By Joe Morey: The holiday season is finally upon us again. Many of us are eagerly preparing for the festivities in the coming week. We are awaiting the arrival of friends and family coming into town, home for the holidays. We are running around in a frenzy getting that last minute shopping done, making sure there is no one forgotten on that shopping list. Some of us are hosting big family get-togethers for Christmas dinner, and hectically planning the meals."

Keeping the “Christ” in Christmas
writes, "By Jeff Crone: What is Christmas really all about? The most memorable TV Christmas programs are always centered around this question. My personal ones are: Scrooge, The Charlie Brown Christmas Special, It’s a Wonderful Life and The Little Drummer Boy. I grew up with these and enjoy them repeatedly every year around this time. Try as I might but to no avail, I usually I cry when it comes to the main point of the story, how about Jimmy Stewart at the end of “It’s a Wonderful Life”?"

Fitness Center a must!
writes, "By Joe Morey: When I attended the new health and fitness center meeting on November 20, I noticed that there was mostly opposition to the fitness center in the crowd. One thing I realized was that the participants at the meeting were mostly of an older age, and they made comments in opposition to a skate park, climbing wall and other things. What they wanted to see was a scaled down, less expansive, fitness center, rather than the state of the art athletic facility that others would like to see."

It’s Time to Live Your Life
writes, "by Jeff Crone: He will, as He promised, make everything beautiful "in it's time" (Eccl. 3:11). Time, it is and always has been a complicated subject. It is difficult to elaborate upon since most of us, in fact, have our own misconceptions of time. For most of us time just is, and as such has always been another fact of life we all eventually must accept. We spend time, waste time, lose time, make time, give our time, take our time, and as we all know, time waits for no man. It is a major driving force for all of humanity."

Club Cafe a shady deal
writes, "by Joe Morey: Boozhoo everybody. Over the past couple of weeks rumors have been circulating that the Club Café would be leased out to a family member of the current owner of the Dog Stop, which is a ‘leased from the tribe’ property located in the LCO Convenience Store. People in the community are questioning how this possible lease came about. For one, they failed to see a posting of the leasing opportunity. When I questioned some members of tribal administration they said it was posted in the Hayward paper. Evidently, it was a small posting about a commercial space on Hwy K. "

Believing in the Creator
writes, "by Jeff Crone: One of the things I truly appreciate about my culture is that we acknowledge the Creator in nearly every major community event. One example is when our tribal elected officials are inaugurated into public office a spiritual advisor is brought in to say a prayer in our language, one year even the Catholic Priest was also brought in to say a prayer on behalf of our elected leadership and for the sake of the tribe. Also at the LCO College before every Board of Regents meeting a prayer in our language is said and each of us prays along also according our own faith. In essence our tribe puts forth various efforts to acknowledge our Creator, this is a truly a noble endeavor.
I think back to the days of living in a one room cabin on Frogg Road with my grandfather and grandmother along with my mother and father and seven of us kids. No electricity and no running water, we had to live off the land and yet we didn’t think we were poor. Poverty was never really something we dwelt upon, we survived day by day and it was certainly enough. Perhaps our simple life was blessed because my grandfather was a man of faith. He believed in the best of both worlds, his traditional upbringing as well as his newfound faith in God’s Word the Bible. Both belief systems acknowledge one God, one Creator, one supreme being who created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. This truth is the same yesterday, today and forever.
"
